Floor requirements
The library must be placed on floor space that meets the following specifications to determine where the tape library is placed.
Use the following steps to ensure that your location meets the floor load requirements and to determine the weight distribution area that is required for the floor load.
-
Find out the floor load rating of the location where you plan to install the library. If
carpeted, ensure that the carpet is approved for computer-room applications.
Important: If you do not know, or are not certain about the floor load rating of the location, be sure to check with the building engineer or another appropriate person.
-
Determine whether the floor load rating if the location meets the following requirements:
- The minimum floor load rating that is used by IBM is 342 kg per m 2 (70 lb per sq ft).
- The per caster transferred weight to a raised floor tile is 450 kg (1000 lb).
-
Using the
Floor load ratings and
required weight-distribution areas
, complete these steps for each library.
- For your configuration, find the row that corresponds with the floor rating of your install location.
- Identify the weight distribution area that is needed for the library and the floor load rating. The weight distribution area is an area in the front and rear of the tape library that must be kept clear of other floor loading objects (i.e. other frames) in order to achieve the proper floor load ratings based on the weight and dimensions of the tape library. The weight distribution distances shown in the chart below extend the full width of the tape library (600 mm) and have a specific distance defining the weight distribution area.
Note:
Consult a structural engineer if you are unsure about the correct placement and weight
distribution areas for the library.
Floor load ratings and required weight-distribution areas
Configuration | Maximum weight of configuration (1) | Floor load rating kg per m ( 2) (lb per sq ft) | Weight distribution area (3,4) Front mm (in.) | Weight distribution area ( 3,4) Rear mm (in.) |
---|---|---|---|---|
4884-L9A (with Top-Rack) | 879 kg (1933 lbs)(2) | 610 (125) | 590 (23.2) | 590 (23.2) |
488 (100) | 890 (35.0) | 890 (35.0) | ||
439 (90) | 1060 (41.6) | 1060 (41.6) | ||
342 (70) | 1530 (60.2) | 1530 (60.2) |
Note:
- Maximum weight includes the highest capacity of tape drives, tape cartridges, and other feature codes that are possible to be installed in the tape library.
- This weight assumes that the Top-Rack is fully loaded with 68.2 kg (150 lbs.) of additional equipment.
- No side clearance is required for the tape library. Front and rear service clearance of 762 mm (30 in) is always required.
- Weight distributions areas may not overlap with weight distribution areas of nearby equipment. Service clearances described in note 3 are allowed to overlap with service clearances of adjacent equipment.
