Network timeout settings

Set timeouts for NFS, and for CIFS, when a file system that is managed by IBM Storage Archive Enterprise Edition is accessed over networks that use those protocols.

When you use NFS, the mount timeo option is used from the NFS client. This option defines how long the NFS client waits for a response from the NFS server. When files are migrated to tape, then the access can take some minutes. It is advised to set the timeo option to 1800 (180 seconds).

When you use NFS, set the IBM Storage Scale dmapiEventTimeout option to a finite number of seconds. The option is changed by using the mmchconfig command, as in the following example:
 /usr/lpp/mmfs/bin/mmchconfig dmapiEventTimeout=1000

When you use CIFS, use the IBM Storage Scale Cluster Export Services (CES) as the server side of CIFS. CES provides the status of the migrated files by using the FILE_ATTRIBUTE_OFFLINE flag. Set the appropriate network timeout value on the CIFS client.

IBM Storage Archive Enterprise Edition can be installed on IBM Storage Scale CES nodes, but it is not always recommended because both CES and IBM Storage Archive Enterprise Edition functions might impact each other from a performance and availability perspective.
