HIPAA X12 type trees

HIPAA X12 type trees describe the data exchange formats associated with HIPAA X12 transaction sets.

The following type trees are included with the SPE Pack for Healthcare Payer:

• hipaa_x12.mtt
• hipaa_x12_type_1.mtt
• hipaa_x12_type_2.mtt
• hipaa_x12_ruleless.mtt

The definitions of the HIPAA X12 type trees in the SPE Pack for Healthcare Payer are based on the following criteria:

• X12 standards documents and table data published by the Data Interchange Standards Association (DISA).
• HIPAA X12 implementation guide specification documents published by Washington Publishing Company.

For the purpose of the SPE Pack for Healthcare Payer, published documents take precedence in cases where the table data and the standards documents do not agree.

The origin of the HIPAA X12 type trees in this package is from the X12 standard type tree definitions in the SPE Pack for Healthcare Payer. There have been HIPAA-specific modifications to the X12 standard definitions in accordance with the HIPAA X12 Implementation Guides.
