How SPE and a host application work together

The IBM® Standards Processing Engine and its host application work together to provide SPE functionality.

What the SPE product provides

The SPE provides these functions:
  • Defined interface points for the calling application
  • Ability to use and create WebSphere® Transformation Extender or Sterling B2B Integrator maps
  • User interface for managing trading partner information
  • Metadata and type trees for mapping (from standards packs)
  • Automated sequencing of document processing functions
  • Data for reporting, error handling, and analytics

What the host application provides

The host application is responsible for providing the following functionality:
  • Communications
  • Integration and orchestration
  • Workload distribution for multiple SPE nodes
  • Error reporting and administration of errors, exceptions, and report data that is returned from SPE
  • Security, audit, and resource governance
  • Document archive and search
  • Reliability, availability, and serviceability
