About Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the electronic exchange of routine business information by using an agreed-upon file structure.
The file structures are defined with EDI standards for the electronic documents. These uniform electronic formats are referred to as standards. Standards, which are periodically updated, are referenced with versions that specify releases, for example, Version 4010 is version 004, release 010; Version 3050 is version 003, release 050.
