Working with business rules

After you import HIPAA business rules into SPE, you can edit, import, export, copy, delete, enable, and disable them.

Task Procedure
Import business rules from a file
  1. Click Resource Manager > Import.
  2. Click Browse to upload the resource file.

    After you upload the resource file, available resources for importing are shown in the Available section. They are presented separately by resource type.

  3. Highlight one or more items, move them to the Selected section, and click Next.
  4. Review your selections and click Next.
  5. If wanted, click and view the report.
  6. Click Finish to return to the import choices.
Edit a business rule
  1. From the Document Envelopes menu, click Business Rules.
  2. Click the Rule Id for a business rule in the Business Rules page.

    The Basic Properties page for the selected business rule is displayed.

  3. Click Edit and edit any available business rule field.
    For example, fields available for editing can differ by rule:
    • Type 2 rules can only be turned on or off.
    • If Types 2 through 4 are turned on or off, maps and type trees must be recompiled.
    • You can do pattern matching on Type 5 rules, as well as turning them on or off.
    • Type 6 rules can be overridden at the Trading Partner level.

  4. When finished, click Save.
View the basic properties of a business rule
  1. From the Document Envelopes menu, click Business Rules.
  2. Click the Rule Id for a business rule in the Business Rules page. The Basic Properties page for the selected business rule is displayed.
Enable or disable a business rule
  1. From the Document Envelopes menu, click Business Rules.
  2. For any business rule that is On in the On/Off column, you can select the rule and click Disable to disable it.
  3. For any business rule that is Off in the On/Off column, you can select the rule and click Enable to make the rule available for use.
Copy a business rule

You can copy selected business rules to create an override instance.

  1. From the Document Envelopes menu, click Business Rules.
  2. Select the business rule that you want to copy and click Copy.
  3. On the Copy Business Rule dialog box, select the Functional Group Envelope Name to associate with the override as a link identifier.
  4. Click Finish.
Delete a business rule
  1. Click Envelopes > Business Rules.
  2. Select a business rule and click Delete.
    Note: Global business rules cannot be deleted from the database.
Export business rules

Business rules that are exported from the SPE Trading Partner UI are used as inputs to the WebSphere® Transformation Extender Global Configurable Rules application. See ../com.ibm.help.spe_hc_pk.doc/concepts/c_pack_healthcareref_configurable_rules.html.

  1. Click Resource Manager > Export.
  2. Under Types to Export, select Business Rules, and click Next.
    The business rules that are available for export is displayed. Example: T6
    Exported version: Only the default version of each rule is available for export.
  3. Highlight one or more business rules, move them to the Selected section, and click Next.
  4. Review your selections and click Next.

    The Export File name, Export Report file name, and their sizes are listed.

  5. Click the Export File name or the Export Report file name to open it for viewing or to save the file to a different location. Click Finish to return to the export choices.
