Customizing the Map Designer environment

Use the Map Designer preferences to configure the default map settings for the Transformation Extender Development perspective.

The Map Designer preferences include customization options for saving, comparing, entering text, and setting the default root name.

To access user preferences, click Window > Preferences > Transformation Extender > Map .

Auto-Save
Specifies the time interval in minutes for automatically saving open maps. (The default setting is 0 minutes.)
Backup on save
Creates a backup copy of the map using file extension .bak when a map file is saved. (This option is disabled by default.)
Commit changes with
Method for committing changes, such as when entering restrictions in component rules.
For example, when Enter is the chosen method, you would press Enter to enter restriction text in a component rule. As a result, the text is entered in the rule cell and the next component cell is selected.
  • Enter & Tab

    This is the default setting. Either Enter or Tab can be used to commit the changes.

  • Enter Use the Enter key to commit changes.
    Tip: You can create a hard return in any component rule or edit area by pressing Ctrl+Enter.
  • Tab Use the Tab key to commit changes.
    Tip: When Tab is the chosen method, you can create a hard return in any rule or edit area by pressing Tab.
Rule differences
  • Ignore white spaces and tabs

    Enable this option to ignore white spaces and tabs when comparing component rules.

Debug
Used for the Map Debugger.
  • Data Length: Maximum size of the data (in bytes) displayed in the Data column of the Debug Rule view. (The default setting is 32.)
Map differences
Specifies node colors when comparing maps.
  • New Node Color (The default setting is blue.)
  • Different Note Color (The default setting is red.)
Rules & Colors Specification
To control the appearance of object names, enable the following setting:
  • Use Ellipses (This option is disabled by default.)
To aid in readability, map rules can be colored with user-configured colors. When color-coding is enabled, each element of a map rule can be configured with a different color. The elements of map rules are categorized to allow color specification by category. (The default setting is Unknown.) Colors are assigned to:
  • Unknown
  • Syntax
  • Number
  • Type Name
  • Map Name
  • Reserved
  • Literal
  • Comment
  • Background
Editor
Used for the Map Editor:
  • Maximum number of 'From' cards:

    Specifies the maximum number of From cards to display. (The default setting is 1.).

  • Maximum number of 'To' cards:

    Specifies the maximum number of To cards to display. (The default setting is 1.).

  • Number of characters to display on rule preview:

    Specifies the maximum number of characters to display on a rule. (The default setting is 64.).
