Generating a new map
This topic describes how you can generate a new map, from a type in a type tree.
About this task
You can generate a new map, from a type in a type tree, using the Generate Map menu option with the New Map option selected.
You can also regenerate the map, from a type in a type tree. Before the process regenerates the map, it prompts you to confirm if you want it to overlay the map. You might want to use this option after you have modified the executable map, and you want to start over and regenerate the map. Close the map source file before you run this option to regenerate the map.
If you do not select Input Card or Output Card, the process still generates the map but without input and output cards.
To generate a new map:

- Map source file. It appears in the location that you specified. It has the same name as the map that uses the type tree that you selected.
- Executable map. It has the same name as the type in the type tree.
- Input and output cards as you specified. They have the same name as the type in the type tree suffixed by _Inp for the input card, and _Out for the output card.
What to do next
View the generated map file.
If you specified the location in a project, refresh its parent project folder so that you can see the generated map file listed under Map Files in the Extender Navigator view. Select the project and click .
If you specified the location in a file system, navigate to the file through your file system.
