Bubble Plot

The Bubble Plot tab provides settings for controlling bubble plot charts that display in the output for meta-analysis with continuous and binary outcomes when raw data and pre-calculated effect size data are provided in the active data set.
Note: Bubble Plot is the only available plot type for meta-analysis regression analysis.
Bubble plot
The optional setting enables and disables bubble plot output. The setting is disabled by default.
Note: This setting is not available for meta-analysis regression analysis.
Variables
Lists the available dataset variables.
Predictor(s)
Specify variables that are treated as continuous predictors on the x-axis. Multiple variables are allowed with each creating a separate bubble plot.
Note: For meta-analysis regression analysis, this setting is labeled Bubble Plot Predictor(s) and allows you to select covariates for which to create bubble plots.
Mean-centered predictor(s)
The optional setting controls the continuous predictor on the x-axis. The setting is disabled by default, which does not center the predictor. When the setting is enabled, the predictor is mean-centered.
Label
Optionally specify a variable upon which the bubble plot is labeled. The Placement list provides options for placing labels automatically (Auto) or on the Right, Left, Upper, and Bottom.
Draw bubbles proportional to weights
Controls how bubbles are drawn in relation to the weights. The setting is enabled by default, which draws the bubbles proportional to the weights. When the setting is disabled, all bubbles are drawn to the same size.
Display fitted line
Controls the display of the fitted regression line. The setting is enabled by default, which adds the fitted regression line to the bubble plot. When the setting is disabled, the fitted regression line is not added to the bubble plot.
Display confidence interval bounds
Controls the display of confidence interval bounds. The setting is enabled by default, which adds the confidence interval bounds to the bubble plot. When the setting is disabled, the confidence interval bounds are not added to the bubble plot.
Range of x-axis
Specifies the x-axis plot range. When the setting is enabled, two numeric values must be specified and satisfy Upper bound > Lower bound. Note that the specified values apply to all bubble plots.
Range of y-axis
Specifies the y-axis plot range. When the setting is enabled, two numeric values must be specified and satisfy Upper bound > Lower bound. Note that the specified values apply to all bubble plots.
For meta-analysis with binary outcomes, when the Effect Size setting is set to Risk Difference, it must also satisfy Upper bound ≤ 1 and Lower bound ≥ −1.

Defining bubble plot settings

  1. From the menus choose:

Analyze > Meta Analysis > Continuous Outcomes or Binary Outcomes > Raw Data... or Pre-Calculated Effect Size...

    or

Analyze > Meta Analysis > Meta Regression

  2. In the Meta-Analysis dialog, click Plot and then click the Bubble Plot tab.
  3. Select and define the appropriate bubble plot settings.
  4. Click Continue.
