Overview (USE command)
USE designates
a range of observations to be used with time series procedures. Cases
outside the defined range are filtered but not deleted from the active
dataset unless the /PERMANENT subcommand is specified.
Basic Specification
The basic specification
is either the start of the range, the end of the range, or both. You
can also simply specify the keyword THRU or ALL.
- The default start is the first observation in the file, and the default end is the last observation.
- The keyword
THRUis required if the end of the range is specified. - The keyword
ALLdefines aUSErange starting with the first observation and ending with the last observation in the series. It can be specified to restore processing to the entire series. - The keyword
THRUby itself is the same as specifying the keywordALL.
Operations
-
USEis ignored by the utility proceduresCREATEandRMV. These procedures process all of the available data. - The
DATEcommand turns off all existingUSEandPREDICTspecifications. -
FILTERandUSEare mutually exclusive.USEautomatically turns off any previousFILTERcommand, andFILTERautomatically turns off any previousUSEcommand. - The
SORTcommand automatically turns off any previousUSEcommand specification. -
USEremains in effect in a session until it is changed by anotherUSEcommand or until a newDATE,FILTER, orSORTcommand is issued.
Limitations
- A maximum of one range (one start and/or one end) can be specified.
