Toolbar shortcuts

Shortcuts are available in the toolbars forData Editor window, Workbook window (Workbook mode), and Output window and Syntax window (Classic mode).

Data Editor window

The following shortcuts are available in the Data Editor window.

Toolbar shortcut Description
Go to case To find the specified case (row) number in the Data Editor.
Go to variable To find the specified variable name in the Data Editor.
Variables To display variable definition information for the currently selected variable (Variable label, data format, user-missing values, value labels, and measurement level).
Run Descriptive Statistics To obtain descriptive statistics for selected variables.
Find and Replace To find and replace data values in Data View or attribute values in Variable View.
Split File To split the data file into separate groups for analysis based on one or more grouping variables.
Select Cases To provide several methods for selecting a subgroup of cases based on criteria that include variables and complex expressions.
Value Labels To assign descriptive value labels for each value of a variable.
Use Variable Sets To restrict the variables that are displayed in the Data Editor and in the dialog box to the variables in the selected (checked) sets.
Welcome Dialog To display the welcome dialog box for IBM SPSS Statistics.
Go to Designated Syntax Window (Classic mode) To view the designated Syntax window, if you have more than one Syntax window left open. If no Syntax window is open, Go to designated Syntax Window opens a new Syntax window.
Go to Designated Viewer Window (Classic mode) To go to the designated Output window. If no Output window is open, Go to designated Viewer Window opens a new Output window.
Go to Designated Viewer Window (Workbook mode) To go to the designated Workbook window.
Customize Toolbars To show or hide toolbars, customize toolbars, and create new toolbars.

Workbook, Syntax, and Output windows

The following shortcuts are available in the Workbook window (Workbook mode), and Output window and Syntax window (Classic mode).

Toolbar shortcut Description
Go To Data (Classic mode and Workbook mode) To return to the DataSet view.
Go to Designated Syntax Window (Classic mode) To view the designated Syntax window, if you have more than one Syntax window left open.
Go to Designated Viewer Window (Classic mode Workbook mode) To go to the designated Output window or Workbook window.
Variables (Classic mode and Workbook mode) To display variable definition information for the currently selected variable (Variable label, data format, user-missing values, value labels, and measurement level).
Find and Replace in the Syntax window To find and replace text in a Syntax window.
Run Selection in the Syntax window To run the selected commands or the command where the cursor is located if no selection exists.
Continue syntax run in the Syntax window To continue a run that is stopped by a breakpoint or Step Through.
Syntax Help in the Syntax window and Workbook window To get information about the selected syntax.
Create/Edit AutoScript in the Syntax window To create an autoscript with the output object that you want to serve as the trigger.
Run Script (Classic mode) To run Python scripts directly from within IBM SPSS Statistics.
Designate Window (Classic mode and Workbook mode) To designate your current window (Workbook window, Output window, or Syntax window).
Toggle Comment Selection in the Syntax window To comment out or uncomment entire commands or texts that are not recognized as command syntax.
Auto intend the syntax in the Syntax window To automatically indent text in syntax.
Toggle Breakpoint in the Syntax window To insert a breakpoint or clear a single breakpoint at a specified point in syntax.
Honor Breakpoint in the Syntax window To toggle so that breakpoints are accepted or ignored.
Split in the Syntax window To split the editor pane into two panes that are arranged one above the other.
Run all (Workbook mode) To run all commands in the Workbook window.
Hide all syntax (Workbook mode) To hide all syntax from editor pane.
Clear all output (Workbook mode) Clear all current output from each syntax.
Create a new syntax paragraph (Workbook mode) To create a new syntax.
Create a new rich text paragraph (Workbook mode) To create a rich text paragraph that provides an editor where users can input formatted text.
Go to case in the Output window To find the specified case (row) number in the Data Editor.
Go to variable in the Output window To find the specified variable name in the Data Editor.
Customize Toolbars (Classic mode and Workbook mode) To show or hide toolbars, customize toolbars, and create new toolbars.
Workbook window (Workbook mode)
If you are on the designated Workbook window, Designate Window is disabled. By default, the new Workbook window gets designated.
Output window (Classic mode)
If you are on the designated Output window, Designate Window is disabled. By default, the new Output window gets designated.
Syntax Window (Classic mode)
If you are on the designated Syntax window, Designate Window is disabled. By default, the new Syntax window gets designated.
