Selecting fields and options

  • Select at least one field as a condition and at least one field as a prediction.
  • Select at least one field from each data source.
    • By default, only fields from the event data source are displayed in the list. Select the context data source or All data sources from the Data Sources list to change the contents of the Fields list.
    • If you have multiple event data sources, Event Data includes the fields from all the event data sources.
  1. In the Data Sources list, select Event Data.
  2. Move CrimeType to the Prediction only list.

  3. In the Data Sources list, select Context.
  4. Move all the fields from Population as of 2010 through PropertyValue to the Condition only list.

At this point, you could select Finish. For this example, there are several changes in the optional settings.

Output options

  • On the output options, the default number of rules to display is 30. For this example, the number of rules is set to 10.
  • For map output, the default number of rules to display is 5. For this example, the number of rules is 10.

Rule building options

Figure 4. Geospatial association rules, rule building options

  • The default minimum for rule support is 5%. For this example, the minimum is decreased to 1%. The value represents the percentage of cases for which the rule is true in the observed data.
  • The default minimum condition support is 5%. For this example, the minimum is decreased to 1%. A rule consists of a condition and a prediction. The value represents the percentage of cases for which the condition exists.

Binning and aggregation options

Continuous (scale) fields are always binned into range categories. The default number of bins is 5. For this example, the number of bins is set to 2. This means that the values of continuous fields in rules are expressed as either greater than or less than a particular value.
