Running the Analysis

  1. To run a Generalized Estimating Equations analysis, from the menus choose:

    Analyze > Generalized Linear Models > Generalized Estimating Equations...

  2. Select Child ID as a subject variable.
  3. Select Age as a within-subject variable.
  4. Select Unstructured as the structure of the working correlation matrix.
  5. Click the Type of Model tab.

  6. On the Type of Model tab, select Binary logistic in the Binary Response or Events/Trials Data group. This specifies a binomial distribution with logistic link.
  7. Click the Response tab.

  8. On the Response tab, select Wheeze as the dependent variable.
  9. Click Reference Category.

  10. In the Reference Category dialog, select First (lowest value).
  11. Click Continue.
  12. Click the Predictors tab.

  13. On the Predictors tab, select Age and Mother a smoker as factors.
  14. Click the Model tab.

  15. On the Model tab, select age and smoker as model terms.
  16. Click the Statistics tab.

  17. On the Statistics tab, select Kernel from the Log quasi-likelihood function drop-down list.
  18. Select Working correlation matrix in the Print group.
  19. Click OK.
