DOCUMENT

DOCUMENT saves a block of text of any length in data files saved in IBM® SPSS® Statistics format. The documentation can be displayed with the DISPLAY command. (See also ADD DOCUMENT.)

DOCUMENT text

This command takes effect immediately. It does not read the active dataset or execute pending transformations. See the topic Command Order for more information.

Equivalent functionality to the DOCUMENT command is provided by the preferred ADD DOCUMENT command. Syntax for the ADD DOCUMENT command can be generated from the Data file comments dialog.

Example

DOCUMENT    This file contains a subset of variables from the
            General Social Survey data.  For each case it records
            only the age, sex, education level, marital status,
            number of children, and type of medical insurance 
            coverage.
