Running the analysis

  1. To run a Bayesian one sample - Poisson distribution analysis, from the menus choose: Analyze > Bayesian Statistics > One Sample Poisson

Bayesian One Sample Inference: Poisson dialog
  2. In the Bayesian One Sample Inference: Poisson dialog, select Previous Experience (months) [prevexp] as the Test Variable(s).
  3. Select Use Both Methods as the Bayesian Analysis. When selected, both the Characterize Posterior Distribution and Estimate Bayes Factor inference methods as used.
  4. Enter 1 for the Null Prior Shape and Null Prior Scale values. Null Prior Shape specifies the shape parameter a0 under the null hypothesis of Poisson inference; Null Prior Scale specifies the scale parameter b0 under the null hypothesis of Poisson inference.
  5. Enter 0.5 for the Alternate Prior Shape value and 1 for the Alternate Prior Scale value. Alternate Prior Shape specifies a1 under the alternative hypothesis of Poisson inference when Bayes factor is estimated.; Alternate Prior Scale specifies b1 under the alternative hypothesis of Poisson inference when Bayes factor is estimated.
  6. Click Priors and define the following Poisson prior distribution settings:

    1. Enter 0.5 as the Shape Parameter value. The value specifies the shape parameter a0 for Gamma distribution.
    2. Enter 1 as the Scale Parameter value. The value specifies the scale parameter b0 for Gamma distribution.
  7. Click Run Analysis.
