Pairwise Comparisons
- Select Pairwise Comparisons from the auxiliary view dropdown.
Figure 1. Pairwise comparisons
The Pairwise Comparisons view shows a distance network chart and comparisons table.
- The distance network chart is a graphical representation of the comparisons table. Yellow lines correspond to statistically significant differences; black lines correspond to non-significant differences. From this, you can quickly see that there are differences between Discover and American Express, Visa, and Mastercard, and between "Other" and American Express.
- The comparison table shows the numerical results of all pairwise comparisons. Each row corresponds to a separate pairwise comparison and gives you more details on how the significant differences were determined. What is most interesting here is that the differences (the values in the Test Statistic column) between "Other" and Visa and Mastercard are almost as great as the differences between Discover and Visa and Mastercard, but the differences between "Other" and Visa and Mastercard are not significant.
Now look at the pairwise comparisons for the amount spent.
- Select spent_sum * Primary credit card (Test 2) from the Fields dropdown.

The Pairwise Comparisons for spent_sum shows similar results, although the difference between "Other" and Visa is statistically significant. The non-significant differences for "Other" in these two views appear to be due to the fact that the standard errors for the comparisons with "Other" are higher than the comparisons with Discover, which may in turn be due to a relatively small number of subjects with Other as their primary credit card.
