Adding and Changing Text in a Chart
You can add the following to charts:
- Text boxes. Text boxes can appear anywhere in a chart. Use them for titles, footnotes, and other general information about the chart. You can drag and drop text boxes to reposition them.
- Titles. Titles are a specific type of text box. When you add one to the chart, it always appears above the data frame and resizes the outer frame if necessary. Like "generic" text boxes, you can drag and drop titles to reposition them.
- Footnotes. Footnotes are another specific type of text box. When you add one to the chart, it always appears below the data frame and resizes the outer frame if necessary. Like "generic" text boxes, you can drag and drop them to reposition them.
- Annotations. Annotations are anchored to specific coordinates in the inner frame. Use them to describe coordinates or data markers in the chart. Annotations can appear only in the inner frame because the annotation is tied to a coordinate. If you reorder categories, the annotation stays with the category. This feature is also useful for templates, because the annotation will appear at the correct coordinates in a chart to which the template is applied. An example is if you wanted all charts to include an annotation that displays "Points above are unusually high".
- Data labels. Data labels are the text frames attached to individual graphic elements. These are useful for identifying the graphic element or for displaying additional information like the underlying data value.
