Adding items to a workbook

Note: The following instructions apply only when the Viewer is in Workbook mode (Edit > Options > General > Application Mode > Workbook).

When the Viewer is in Workbook mode, you can add items syntax paragraphs, rich text paragraphs, or material from other applications.

Adding a syntax paragraph

Syntax paragraphs allow you to create new or modify existing IBM® SPSS® Statistics syntax.

  1. Select a location in the outline or paragraph workspace.
  2. From the menus choose:

    Insert > New Syntax Paragraph

    or

Click the Create a new syntax paragraph control on the toolbar.

  3. Enter or edit the SPSS Statistics syntax in the new syntax paragraph. For information, see Working with Command Syntax.
  4. Click the Run syntax control to run the syntax in the corresponding paragraph. Click the All control to run syntax in all available paragraphs.

Adding a rich text paragraph

  1. In the outline pane or paragraph workspace, click the table, chart, or other object that will precede the rich text paragraph.
  2. From the menus choose:

    Insert > Create Text Paragraph

  3. Enter the desired text in the new rich text paragraph.

Each rich text paragraph provides an editor where users can input formatted text (for example, font size, font family, text color, and so on). You can leverage the editor to write annotations or descriptions for the workbook syntax and output elements.

Pasting objects into a workbook

Objects from other applications can be pasted into a workbook. You can use either Paste After or Paste Special. Either type of pasting puts the new object after the currently selected object in the workbook. Use Paste Special when you want to choose the format of the pasted object.
