Installing, Saving, or Sharing Your Extension

You can now install, save, or share the completed SPSSINC RASCH DEMO extension.

Installing the extension

Installing the extension that is open in the Custom Dialog Builder for Extensions also installs the custom dialogs and any extension commands that are contained in the extension.

From the menus in the Custom Dialog Builder, choose:

File > Install

The custom dialog for the SPSSINC RASCH DEMO extension is now available from the IBM® SPSS® Statistics menus.

Saving the extension

When you save an extension, all of the components that are contained in the extension are saved. In the current example, the extension includes the files for an extension command and the file for a custom dialog that generates the command syntax for the extension command.

  1. From the menus in the Custom Dialog Builder, choose:

    File > Save

  2. In the Save an Extension Bundle dialog box, specify a location for the extension bundle (*.spe or *.spxt) file.

Sharing the extension

  1. Distribute the extension bundle file, that you saved, to the users of the extension.

Users can easily install the extension, which then installs the custom dialog and the files for the extension command.

  2. From the menus, they choose:

Extensions > Install Local Extension Bundle

  3. In the Open an Extension Bundle dialog box, they select the extension bundle file that you distributed.
Note:
  • For Windows and Mac, you can also install an extension by double-clicking the extension bundle file.
  • Custom dialogs that are created within the Custom Dialog Builder for Extensions are not compatible with releases of IBM SPSS Statistics before release 24. To create an extension that contains a custom dialog that is compatible with pre-24 releases, you must create the custom dialog in Compatibility mode. You then save the custom dialog to a compatible custom dialog package (.spd) file and add the .spd file and the extension command files to a new extension bundle. You can create an extension bundle from Extensions > Utilities > Create Extension Bundle, within the IBM SPSS Statistics menus.
