Setting up your account

Follow the instructions to create and set up a cloud account in watsonx.ai.

Register for IBM Cloud account

1. Go to https://cloud.ibm.com/registration https://cloud.ibm.com/registration to create an account.
   Follow the instructions that you see on the screen and complete the registration. For detailed information, see Signing up for IBM watsonx

Create API key

2. Go to API Keys and create an API key.
   1. Click Create.
   2. Enter the name and description of the API key. For example, you can provide the name watsonx-api-key and add a description as API key for watsonx.ai access.
   3. Click Create.
   4. Copy the newly generated API key.

   Remember: Store the API key securely. You can view or copy the API key only once.

Set up your project

3. Go to Projects in your watsonx.ai account and then configure a project.
   After you register your account in IBM cloud, a default sandbox project is created in the account. If you are a beginner, you can use this sandbox project. Alternatively, you can also create a new project for organized workflows. To create a project, click New Project.

   1. Click your project name. The configuration page for the project opens. Click Manage tab.
   2. Click General from the left pane. From the Details section, copy your project ID.

Associate watsonx.ai service

4. Associate watsonx.ai service to your project (if not done already) and choose an appropriate plan.
   1. In the Manage tab of your project, click Services & integrations from the left pane.
   2. In the list of IBM services, check if watsonx.ai is added. If not, click Asscoiate service.
   3. Select watsonx.ai.
   4. Choose your plan.
      • Lite plan is free and offers 25000 tokens per month
      • Standard plan is a paid option with higher token limits

      If you select the standard plan, make sure you already updated your payment details in your account.

   5. Click Create and then click Associate to complete.

Verify your connection

5. Check whether the connection is established between SPSS Statistics instance and watsonx.ai.
   1. In your Project window, click Assets tab.
   2. Click New Asset and select Chat and build prompts with foundation models.
   3. Your Prompt lab opens and you can view the list of available foundation models in the Model menu.
   4. Open AI Output Assistant in SPSS Statistics and click Change model. You can view the same list of foundation models.

6. Copy and paste your API key and Project ID to AI Output Assistant in SPSS Statistics
   1. Go to AI Output Assistant dialog box.
   2. Click Edit account. The dialog box for watsonx.ai Account opens.
   3. Paste the API key and Project ID in API Key field and Project ID field.
   4. Click OK.
