Creating Graphboard Visualizations
Graphboard visualizations are created by choosing a visualization template in the template chooser.
- From the menus choose:
The template chooser consists of two main tabs for selecting visualization templates. These two tabs correspond to two different methods for creating a visualization from a template.
- Basic tab. On the Basic tab, you first select the data that you are interested in analyzing and then select a graph that is appropriate for the data. You start from the data rather than a specific graph type. See the topic Basic Tab for more information.
- Detailed tab. On the Detailed tab, you first select a graph type and then specify the data. You can also add details that are not available on the Basic tab. See the topic Detailed Tab for more information. Using the Detailed tab is optional when creating most visualizations. However, it is required for maps. For additional information about creating maps, see Creating Map Visualizations .
These methods are not mutually exclusive. While creating the graph, you can switch back and forth between the tabs. The current state of the graph definition is preserved in both tabs (including options that may not be available on the Basic tab).
The template chooser also includes two additional tabs:
- Titles tab. Use this tab to specify any titles and footnotes you want to appear in the resulting visualization. See the topic Titles Tab for more information.
- Options tab. Use this tab to specify the output label in the Output Viewer, the visualization stylesheet, and missing-value handling. See the topic Options Tab for more information.
There are two buttons that allow you to control which visualization templates (and stylesheets) are displayed:
Manage. Manage visualization templates and stylesheets on your computer. You can import, export, rename, and delete visualization templates and stylesheets on your local machine. See the topic Managing Templates, Stylesheets, and Map Files for more information.
Location. Change the location in which visualization templates and stylesheets are stored. The current location is listed to the right of the button. See the topic Setting the Location of Templates, Stylesheets, and Maps for more information.
