General Properties for IBM SPSS Statistics Steps

The general properties for an IBM® SPSS® Statistics step specify what gets run and which server processes the step when the job is run. To define general properties for an IBM SPSS Statistics step, click the step in an open job. Click the General tab to view or edit the step properties.

Job step name. Type a name for the step. The default name appends a _step suffix to the file name.

Object version. Select the version of the file submitted to the execution server using the drop-down list.

Additional arguments. Define optional command line switches that get passed to the IBM SPSS Statistics execution server when the job is run.

Warning expression. Define warnings for job steps connected by a Conditional connector. The warning expression (e.g., completion_code, warning, or success) must be lowercase.

To use warning expressions:

  1. Connect two job steps with a Conditional connector. In the Expression field for the conditional connector, type warning==true.
  2. Navigate to the General tab of the parent job step.
  3. In the Warning expression field, specify a warning code--for example, completion_code==18. This expression overrides the default warning code, if any.

When the job is run, the system will execute the parent job step. Then the system will evaluate the condition for warning==true. If true, the system will look at the warning expression specified and determine if the condition was met. If the condition specified in the warning expression was met, the system proceeds to the next job step.

IBM SPSS Statistics Server. Use the drop-down list to select an IBM SPSS Statistics server or cluster to process the step. The list contains all servers and clusters currently configured to execute IBM SPSS Statistics steps. To add a new server to the list, click New.

If a remote IBM SPSS Statistics execution server was selected in the IBM SPSS Statistics Server field, additional fields for a IBM SPSS Statistics login, a Content Repository Server, and a Content Repository login are available.

IBM SPSS Statistics login. If an IBM SPSS Statistics remote execution server is selected, a corresponding IBM SPSS Statistics login must be provided. Use the drop-down list to select the login ID for the remote IBM SPSS Statistics server selected. To specify a new login credential, click New and follow the prompts in the wizard.

Content Repository Server. Optionally, a content repository server can be specified. Use the drop-down list to select an existing content repository server, or to define a new content repository server, click New. To have the system create a new server definition for the current content repository, click Generate. Whether a new server was user-defined or system-generated, the new definition appears in the Content Repository Server field and the \Resource Definitions\Server folder.

Content Repository Login. If a content repository server is selected, a corresponding content repository login must be provided. Use the drop-down list to select an existing content repository login, or to define a new content repository login credential, click New. To have the system create a new content repository login definition for the current content repository, click Generate. Whether a new login credential was user-defined or system-generated, the new credential appears in the Content Repository Login field and the \Resource Definitions\Credentials folder.
