Funnel Plot

The Funnel Plot tab provides settings for controlling funnel plot charts that display in the output for meta-analysis with continuous and binary outcomes when raw data and pre-calculated effect size data are provided in the active data set.

Funnel plot
The optional setting enables and disables funnel plot output. The setting is disabled by default.
Y-Axis Values
Controls the y-axis values.
Standard error
Plots the standard error.
Inverse standard error
Plots the inverse standard error.
Variance
Plots the variance.
Inverse variance
Plots the inverse variance.
Range of x-axis
Specifies the x-axis plot range. When the setting is enabled, two numeric values must be specified and satisfy Upper bound > Lower bound. Note that the specified values apply to all funnel plots.
For meta-analysis with binary outcomes, when the Effect Size setting is set to Risk Difference, it must also satisfy Upper bound ≤ 1 and Lower bound ≥ −1.
Range of y-axis
Specifies the y-axis plot range. When the setting is enabled, two numeric values must be specified and satisfy Upper bound > Lower bound ≥ 0. Note that the specified values apply to all funnel plots.
Include imputed studies with trim-and-fill
Controls whether the imputed studies are included in the funnel plot when the Estimate number of missing studies setting is enabled in the Trim-and-Fill dialog. The settings is disabled by default, which excludes the imputed studies. When Display overall effect size of observed studies is selected, a vertical reference line that denotes the estimated overall effect size is added. The setting takes into account both observed and imputed studies.
Variables
Lists the available dataset variables.
Label
Optionally specify a variable upon which the funnel plot is labeled. The Placement list provides options for placing labels automatically (Auto) or on the Right, Left, Upper, and Bottom.

Defining funnel plot settings

  1. From the menus choose:

Analyze > Meta Analysis > Continuous Outcomes or Binary Outcomes > Raw Data... or Pre-Calculated Effect Size...

  2. In the Meta-Analysis dialog, click Plot and then click the Funnel Plot tab.
  3. Select and define the appropriate funnel plot settings.
  4. Click Continue.
