Overview

The Overview features two sections. The top section provides information about an entire dataset or file:

  • In the upper left-hand corner, an Update button is enabled whenever the information in the dataset or file has been changed and you need to update the view in order to remain in sync with the changes.
  • In the upper right-hand corner, two Chart Format buttons let you toggle between viewing counts and percentages for all charts on the tab.
  • Immediately below the Update button is a tile that provides the dataset name and the file name (if applicable), as well as the numbers of variables and cases.
  • The next area shows information about the variables. You can view frequency distributions of variable types or assigned measurement levels for the variables in the dataset or file. Two buttons at the bottom left below the chart allow you to toggle between viewing variable types and measurement levels. An arrow button can be selected that will take you to the Variable View.
  • The area on the right provides a summary of missing values: complete and missing data in pie charts for variables, cases, and individual values. If the Missing Values option is licensed, an arrow button is displayed that when clicked calls up the Multiple Imputation Analyze Patterns dialog box.

The bottom section displays basic information about a selected variable:

  • On the left, a Variable Report drop-down list allows you to choose a particular variable to display.
  • For categorical variables (assigned nominal or ordinal measurement levels) with 100 or fewer distinct values, either a bar chart or a pie chart of counts or percentages of unique values is displayed.
  • On the right, a frequencies table is displayed, showing unique values, counts, and percentages. An arrow button calls up the Frequencies dialog box.
  • For scale variables, a histogram is displayed on the left, with frequency counts or percentages on the vertical axis.
  • On the right a set of descriptive statistics is displayed, including the mean, standard deviation, minimum and maximum values, and the quartiles (25th, 50th, and 75th percentiles). The arrow button calls up the Explore dialog box.
