Annotations
Annotations are text frames that are anchored to specific coordinates in the inner frame.
How to Add an Annotation
- From the menus choose:
The Chart Editor creates an annotation and automatically positions it near the center of the data frame.
- Type the annotation text. To enter line breaks, press Shift+Enter.
- Press Enter when you have finished typing.
Tip
If you change the axis range after adding an annotation, it might end up being hidden. To display the annotation again, use the Scale tab or the Matrix Axis Scale tab to change the axis range.
How to Move an Annotation
There are a couple of options for moving an annotation in a chart. As with text frames, you to drag and drop annotations to a new position in the inner frame. As you drag the annotation, the Chart Editor displays the coordinates to which the annotation would be anchored if you dropped it at that spot. You cannot drag the annotation out of the inner frame.
You can also enter precise coordinates to which you want to anchor the annotation:
- Select an annotation in the chart.
- If the Properties window is not displayed, from the menus choose:
- Use the Annotation tab to specify the position of the annotation. You can specify the coordinate to which it is anchored and its orientation in relation to that anchor.
- Click Apply.
How to Format an Annotation
- Select an annotation in the chart.
- If the Properties window is not displayed, from the menus choose:
- If necessary, use the Text tab to format the text.
- Click Apply.
Using the Annotation Tab
Anchor Point. This setting allows you to specify the position of the annotation in the data frame. You can also drag and drop the annotations, but this setting ensures a precise position. For scale axes, you can enter any number between the minimum and maximum values for the axis. This number indicates the annotation's position along the axis. For categorical axes, you can select a category. The annotation appears where the selected category appears in the chart.
Text Position. Select the location of the annotation text in relation to the anchor point.
