Restoring mailboxes on remote systems
The process of restoring mailboxes on a remote system with the Mailbox Restore Browser feature differs from restore operations on local systems.
Before you begin
- For a typical mailbox restore task, you must install the IBM Storage Protect Snapshot for Microsoft Exchange Server package on the local and remote systems. The correct version of Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects (for Exchange Server 2013) or 32-bit Outlook (for Exchange Server 2016 and later) must also be installed.
- To restore mailboxes on a remote system with Mailbox Restore Browser, the local and remote systems must be in the same domain. The following procedure assumes that you installed the latest version of IBM Storage Protect Snapshot, configured the Exchange Server workload, and have a Windows PowerShell remote connection. At least one mailbox needs to be stored in a database on the remote system.
- After you complete the installation of software on the local and remote systems, verify that the remote system is available and that you can connect to it. Verify that the database with the mailbox you want to restore is backed up successfully. You can use Microsoft Management Console (MMC) to go to the remote system where you want to restore mailboxes.
Procedure
- From MMC, expand the navigation tree to the remote system.
- From the Protect and Recover Data tree node, select the Exchange Server.
- In the main window, on the Recover tab, click View > Mailbox Restore Browser.
- Select the mailbox that you want to restore. Click OK. The mailbox is displayed in the Source Mailbox tree view.
- Click Restore Mail to Original Mailbox.
