IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Overview
View high-level status information about the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus environment.
- Jobs and Operations
- Jobs are used to run backup, restore, inventory, and maintenance operations. The following
information is available:
- Currently Running
- The total number of jobs that are running. Click this area to view details about each job, such as its start time, duration, and status.
- Active Resources
- The total number of application and hypervisor active resources. Click this area to view details about each active resource, such as the resource type and the name of the associated job.
- Schedules
- The total number of scheduled jobs. Click this area to view details about each schedule, such as the schedule type and its next run time.
- History
-
The History section shows the jobs that were completed within the selected time period. Status summaries are shown for all jobs and for individual job types. You can click the Total label to view details for all jobs, or you can click the label for a job type to view details for all jobs of the selected type. Details include each job's start time, duration, and status.
The following states can be shown:- Successful
- The percentage of jobs that were completed with no warnings or critical errors.
- Warning
- The percentage of jobs that were partially completed, skipped, or otherwise resulted in warnings.
- Failed
- The percentage of jobs that failed with critical errors or that failed to be completed.
The following job types are shown. Click any of the status rings to view more information about the individual jobs.- Total
- The total number of jobs that were completed over the selected time period.
- Backup
- The number of backup jobs that were completed over the selected time period. A backup job identifies resources to back up according to service level agreement (SLA) policies.
- Restore
- The number of restore jobs that were completed over the selected time period. A restore job recovers data or makes data available for reuse. Data is restored from a restore point, such as a virtual machine or a database.
- Inventory
- The number of inventory jobs that were completed over the selected time period. An inventory job updates the inventory with resource information. An inventory job runs when a resource is added, and can be run later to detect changes to a resource.
- Maintenance
- The number of maintenance jobs that were completed over the selected time period. A maintenance job runs once a day to remove resources and associated objects that are created when a job that is in a pending state is deleted.
- Capacity
- Backup storage capacity is provided by one or more vSnap servers. Each vSnap server contains a
storage pool that consists of one or more disks that were provisioned to the vSnap server. The
following information is available:
- Available Capacity
- To increase capacity, install more vSnap servers or provision more disks to a vSnap server.
- Data Deduplication Ratio
- When deduplication is enabled, each incoming block of data is hashed and compared to existing blocks in the storage pool. Duplicate blocks are skipped instead of being written to the storage pool. The data deduplication ratio is the amount of data that is protected compared with the physical space that is required to store the data after duplicates are removed. This ratio represents space savings that are achieved in addition to the compression ratio. If deduplication is disabled on the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus server, this ratio is 1.
- Data Compression Ratio
- When compression is enabled, a compression algorithm is applied to each incoming block of data before the data is written to disk. The data compression ratio is the amount of data that is protected compared with the physical space that is required to store the data after it is compressed.
- Disk Storage
- The current usage and availability of the vSnap servers, which provide disk storage to IBM Spectrum Protect
Plus. One vSnap server with the name localhost is
automatically installed when the IBM Spectrum Protect
Plus
appliance is initially deployed. In larger backup enterprise environments, more vSnap servers can be
added.
The Disk Storage table lists the hostnames of the sites to which each vSnap server is assigned. Sites are used to group vSnap servers based on a physical or logical location to help you quickly identify and interact with backup data. A site is assigned to a vSnap server when the server is added to IBM Spectrum Protect Plus. A vSnap server on a primary site might replicate backup data to a vSnap server on a secondary site.
- Policies
- Service level agreement (SLA) policies define parameters for backup jobs. The Policies section
shows the total number of SLA policies with associated protection jobs. The Policies section also
shows the SLA policies that have the highest count of assigned resources. Click on the Policies
label to view details about each policy, such as the retention period for backup snapshots and the
frequency of backup operations.
- Source Protection
- Source resources are resources, such as virtual machines and application servers, that are inventoried by IBM Spectrum Protect Plus. These resources can be protected by backup jobs. The Source Protection section shows the total number of source resources, and the number of source resources of each type. Status summaries show the percentage of source resources that are protected by backup jobs, and the number of source resources that are unprotected.
