Manually backing up a server database

Back up the IBM Spectrum Protect server database regularly to protect the server. If the database misses a scheduled backup, you can manually back it up and optionally change the device class to which scheduled backups are written.

Before you begin

On the Servers page of the Operations Center, check the Last Database Backup column to see which server databases were not backed up recently (for example, in the last 24 hours).

About this task

You might have set up a schedule for server database backups. If the Servers page of the Operations Center indicates that a server database was not backed up at the scheduled time, you can manually back up the server database.

Procedure

  1. On the Servers page, select the server whose database you want to back up.
  2. Click Back Up, and follow the instructions in the Back Up Server Database window.
    Tips:
    • Alternatively, you can back up the server database by issuing the BACKUP DB command. You can specify more backup parameters by using this command.
    • To restore a server database, use the DSMSERV RESTORE DB utility.
    • For information about commands and utilities, see the IBM Spectrum Protect documentation.
