Managing cloud connections

Cloud connections define all the information that the server requires to access cloud storage for read and write operations.

About this task

Cloud connections are used by cloud-container storage pools and by cloud device classes.

When you define a cloud-container storage pool by using the Add Storage Pool wizard, you are prompted to identify a cloud connection. By using the information in the cloud connection, the server is able to read and write to the cloud storage system.

You can define a cloud device class from the Command Builder by using the DEFINE DEVCLASS command. On the DEFINE DEVCLASS, you use the CONNECTION parameter to specify the connection to use for the device class. You can use a cloud device class for the following purposes:
  • To back up a server database to the cloud. When you back up a server database by using the Back Up action on the Servers page, you can specify a cloud device class.
  • To write retention sets to the cloud for long-term storage. When you define a retention storage pool by using the Add Storage Pool wizard, you can specify a cloud device class.

From the Cloud Connections page, you can view configuration and status information for all cloud connections that are defined on the servers that are managed by the Operations Center. From the Cloud Connections page, you can verify that the Operations Center is able to access the cloud storage systems by using the cloud connections. You can also open a wizard to create a cloud connection. The wizard prompts you for the credentials that are needed to access the type of cloud storage you are using.

Procedure

On the Operations Center menu bar, click Storage > Cloud Connections.
