Issuing commands

You can configure and manage servers by issuing commands from the Operations Center, which includes a command-line interface that is called the Command Builder. You can keep the Command Builder open while you open different pages of the Operations Center.

Command assistance

You can interactively build commands in the Command Builder by turning command assistance on. When command assistance is on, the command line provides completion suggestions for command and parameter names as you type. Command assistance also prompts you to specify parameter values.
Tip: For detailed command information, issue the following command: HELP command_name

Opening and manipulating the command-line interface

Task Procedure Keyboard shortcut
Open In the Operations Center menu bar, hover over the settings icon Settings icon, and select Command Builder. Ctrl+Shift+Z
Turn command assistance on and off Click the Assist toggle.  
Resize Drag the lower-right corner of the command-line interface.  
Move Drag the menu bar of the command-line interface.  
Close Click the Close Window icon close icon.
Tip: Alternatively, enter EXIT or QUIT on the command line.

Issuing commands and managing output

Task Procedure  
Issue a command
  1. From the server list in the command-line interface, select the server to which you want to issue a command.
  2. Enter the command.
 
Accept an autocomplete suggestion from command assist Command assist displays lists of choices and inline suggestions.

For list suggestions, click an item in the list. Alternatively, use the arrow keys to highlight an item in the list, and press the Enter or Tab key.

For inline suggestions, press the Tab key.

 
Get help information about a command Enter the following command:
HELP command_name
 
Scroll through the command history   Up Arrow and Down Arrow keys.
Cancel a command that is running On the command line, click the Loading icon loading icon. Ctrl+Shift+Q
Clear the command line   Esc
Display output with continuous scrolling Enter the following command:
PAGEOUTPUT NO
 
Display output page by page Enter the following command:
PAGEOUTPUT YES
 
Display output in table format Enter the following command:
DISPLAYMODE TABLE
 
Display output in list format Enter the following command:
DISPLAYMODE LIST
 
Display output as a table or as a list, depending on which of these two display modes best suits the size of the window Enter the following command:
DISPLAYMODE AUTO
 
Clear all output from the display Enter the following command:
CLEAR
 
Find text Use the find function of your web browser. Ctrl+F
Copy and paste text Use the copy and paste functions of your web browser. Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V
Send output to a file You cannot redirect output from the command-line interface of the Operations Center to a file. However, you can choose one of the following alternatives:
  • You can copy output from the display and paste it into a file.
  • You can switch to the command-line interface of the administrative client, where you can redirect output to a file by including the OUTFILE option in the command. For information about the command-line interface of the administrative client, see the IBM Spectrum Protect documentation.
 

Command options that are not available in the Command Builder

You cannot include the following command options when you issue commands from the Command Builder. To include these command options, issue the commands instead from the command-line interface of the administrative client.
