Getting started with HSM for Windows client web GUI
HSM for Windows client web GUI is a single management UI that allows administrators to manage configuration of all the Windows HSM file servers and associated storage space and to receive warning and error message alerts.
Administrators can use a web browser to log in to the HSM for Windows client web GUI, access one of the HSM nodes in the company’s installation, and supervise all the HSM-managed file servers.
The HSM for Windows client web GUI is an optional, installable component that comes with the HSM for Windows client installer package. The HSM for Windows client web GUI is installed on one HSM node that acts as the proxy-server node. All other HSM nodes can act as proxy-client nodes and require registration at the proxy-server node.
The HSM for Windows client web GUI consists of the following pages:
Login page
The Login page allows administrators to login to HSM for Windows client web GUI by using valid credentials and access one of the HSM nodes in the company’s installation and supervise all the HSM-managed file servers.
Dashboard page
The Dashboard page displays information about the HSM nodes in the company’s installation. The Dashboard page consists the following tiles:
- HSM Clients: The tile displays the number of HSM clients connected with the application with status and risk information. The HSM client risk is calculated based on volume space usage and recall capabilities.
- File Server: The tile displays the connected file server summary information with used space, free space, migrated space, and migrated files. Migrated space and migrated files values are calculated based on HSM volume scan data.
- Volumes: The tile displays the total number of connected volumes along with their risk information.
- Services: The tile displays the total number of running services along with their category and status.
- Alerts: The tile displays the total number of alert messages at the top. The alert messages are categorized in the Recall, Recall Quota, Migration, Reconcile, and Other classes. Unread alert message counts for each class are highlighted in the blue color.
- Maintenance: The tile displays running maintenance tasks information. The maintenance tasks are classified in the Threshold, Volume Scan, and Reconcile types.
- SP Servers: The tile displays information about connected IBM® Storage Protect servers.
- Management Classes: The tile displays information about management classes.
- Filespaces: The tile displays information about file spaces in use.
Activity page

volume scans for each client node. On the Volume Analysis page, you can view
the information in a tabular format with the following columns:
- File Server: The column specifies the name of a file server.
- Volume: The column specifies a volume on a file server.
- Capacity: The column specifies the total storage capacity of a volume.
- Offline: The column specifies the offline storage space of a volume.
- Resident Files: The column specifies the number of resident files on a volume at the time of last scan.
- Stub Files: The column specifies the number of stub files on a volume at the time of last scan.
- % Stub Files: The column specifies the percentage of stub files on a volume at the time of last scan.
- Scan Task: The column allows administrators to start scan task manually and displays the duration from the last scan.
- Expand Icon: The column allows administrators to view the trends of volume occupancy based on the occupied volume along with time. Click the expand icon to view volume scan graphs of resident and migrated data and files.
Alerts page
The Alert page displays all error and warning log messages in tabular format with the most recent message appears at the top. For each alert or warning message, administrators can view the time of alert, server, process, alert class, and an alert message. Click a row to view the detailed error message, explanation of the alert message, system action, and suggested user action. At the top of the table, the number of alert messages for each class is listed. The alert message classes are User Recall, Recall Quota, Migration, Reconcile, and Other.
Configuration page
The Configuration page allows administrators to configure and monitor migration jobs. The Configuration page consists of the following tabs:
- HSM Installations: Click the HSM Installations tab to
view configured client nodes information. You can view connection status and start and stop HSM
services on different nodes. The HSM Installations page displays information in
the tabular format with the following columns:
- File Server: The column specifies the name of a file server.
- Cluster Name: The column specifies the name of a cluster.
- HSM Version: The column specifies the HSM version that is installed on a file server.
- SP Node: The column specifies the IBM Storage Protect node name.
- SP Server: The column specifies the IBM Storage Protect server name and status.
- Monitor Service: The column allows administrators to start, stop, or restart the monitor service and displays the status of the monitor service.
