Automating backups

Use the IBM Storage Protect scheduler with Data Protection for IBM® Domino® to automate online backups of Domino server databases.

Install the latest IBM Storage Protect backup-archive client. The backup-archive client must be on the same system as Data Protection for HCL Domino to use the scheduler service.

After Data Protection for HCL Domino is registered to a IBM Storage Protect server and installed and configured on the Domino server, run the following steps:

  1. On the IBM Storage Protect server:
    1. Define a schedule in the policy domain to which Data Protection for IBM Domino is registered.
    2. Associate the Data Protection for HCL Domino node to the defined schedule.
  2. On the Domino server where Data Protection for HCL Domino is installed:
    1. Install the IBM Storage Protect scheduler client as a Windows service. If a scheduler exists for the regular IBM Storage Protect backup-archive client, install and configure another scheduler for Data Protection for HCL Domino. The IBM Storage Protect scheduler must have a different node name from the regular IBM Storage Protect Backup-Archive client.
    2. Define a command file that contains the Data Protection for HCL Domino commands to run a backup.
    3. If you are running in a cluster server environment, install the Tivoli Storage Manager scheduler as a Windows service on both cluster nodes.
    4. If you are running in a cluster server environment, create a cluster resource that represents the IBM Storage Protect scheduler. Verify that the cluster resource is started.
    5. Start the scheduler that is installed for Data Protection for IBM Domino.
