IBM Storage Protect for Enterprise Resource Planning now supports SAP HANA version 2.00.088.00.1760424921 on the IBM Power11 platform running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 15 SP7.

IBM Db2 12.1 Support on Power11

IBM Storage Protect for Enterprise Resource Planning now supports SAP environments running IBM Db2 12.1 on AIX 7.3 over IBM Power11 servers.

IBM Storage Protect for Enterprise Resource Planning now supports SAP environments running IBM Db2 12.1 on the AIX 7.3 platform.

PGP key-based package signing

You can now verify the authenticity and integrity of IBM Storage Protect for Enterprise Resource Planning packages by using the IBM public PGP key and standard verification tools. A successful verification confirms that the package is authentic and has not been modified since IBM released it.

Must-Gather support for SAP HANA

Must-Gather scripts provide an automated method for collecting diagnostic data across all IBM Storage Protect for Enterprise Resource Planning components, reducing time spent on problem determination for SAP HANA environments.

RHEL 9.x support

IBM Storage Protect for Enterprise Resource Planning — including Oracle, DB2, and SAP HANA — now supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.x (RHEL), improving compatibility and supporting infrastructure modernization.

SAP HANA version support

IBM Storage Protect for Enterprise Resource Planning now supports SAP HANA version 2.00.077.00.1713529394 on RHEL 9.x, enabling migration and operation of SAP HANA workloads with improved compatibility.

Java 21 upgrade

All products — including SAP HANA, Oracle, and DB2 — have moved from Java 8 and 17 to Java 21. This upgrade addresses security vulnerabilities that affected product integrity and reduces vulnerability-related risks.

Product rebranding

The product name has changed from IBM Spectrum Protect for Enterprise Resource Planning to IBM Storage Protect for Enterprise Resource Planning.

SAP HANA Integration Certification

IBM Storage Protect for Enterprise Resource Planning is certified in collaboration with the SAP team and holds the SAP HANA Integration Certification. The certification validates interoperability through the following components:

  • Backint SDK for SAP HANA
  • Backint Certification Test Suite
  • Backint API Version 1.0
  • Backint API Version 1.5

Backup expiration enhancements through SAP HANA Cockpit

Along with the MAX_VERSIONS setting in IBM Storage Protect for Enterprise Resource Planning, you can optimize performance by deleting Backup Catalog objects in SAP HANA Cockpit. For more information, see Deleting Backup Catalog objects in SAP HANA Cockpit.

Data Protection for SAP HANA restoring to alternative location enhancements

The restoring to alternative location process has been enhanced, including the option to use SAP HANA Cockpit. For more information, see Restoring a Data Protection for SAP HANA backup on an alternative system.

Hostname resolution in SAP HANA scale-out environments

You can now find the node or hostname in the operations output in backint.log during problem determination. For more information, see Log files that contain information and messages.

SAP HANA Backint 1.5

Support for Backint for SAP HANA version 1.5, introduced with SAP HANA SPS05, has been added and successfully certified.

Secure connections with TLS/SSL

You can now connect to your SAP HANA databases by using Transport Layer Security (TLS) or Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connections.

Improved backup size accuracy

The accuracy of the estimated backup size that is sent to the IBM Storage Protect for Enterprise Resource Planning server has been improved. Instead of a fixed value that depended on the allocated memory size, the exact value of the backup is used.

8.1.4

Parallel processing for redo logs

IBM Storage Protect for Enterprise Resource Planning can process multiple redo log copies in dedicated threads when used with SAP HANA, IBM Db2®, or Oracle RMAN database technology. If the system offers sufficient CPU power and bandwidth, these redo logs are sent to IBM Storage Protect servers in parallel, which can improve system performance.

Backup image optimization for data deduplication

You can optimize the format of backup images for data deduplication with Db2 by running the Backup Object Manager command, backom, with the command option -o. The new format is compressed and requires less storage space. For more information, see Optimize for data deduplication in Db2.

Automatic expiration of obsolete backup versions

Data Protection for SAP HANA can now automatically delete obsolete backup generations. This feature was previously available for Data Protection for SAP Oracle and Data Protection for SAP Db2 only. For more information, see Retain backups by version.
