Testing an activity

Describes how to test an activity definition in IBM Sterling Partner Engagement Manager (PEM) 6.3 before rolling it out for execution.

Before you begin

Before you begin:

  • Create an activity definition and configure its tasks and nodes.
  • Sign in to PEM as a user with permission to design and test activities.

About this task

Testing an activity allows you to validate the workflow, task behavior, and data flow before making the activity available for execution.

PEM provides a test mode that enables activity designers to test an activity definition in isolation without affecting production data.

Procedure

  1. Open the activity definition that you want to test.
  2. Start the test mode for the activity.
Test mode launches the activity in a controlled environment for validation purposes.
  3. Execute the activity steps as a user.
Complete tasks and nodes to verify that the workflow behaves as expected.
  4. Review the activity behavior and results.
Verify task progression, data values, and any validations configured in the activity.
  5. Exit the test mode.
Make any required changes to the activity definition based on the test results.

Results

The activity definition is validated and ready to be rolled out for execution.

What to do next

After testing the activity, roll it out to users so that it can be executed.
