Types of resource scheduling plans: slot-based and multidimensional scheduling
IBM Spectrum Symphony supports two types of resource scheduling plans: slot-based and multidimensional scheduling. Regardless of your resource planning type, you can use the cluster management console to work with your plan, including managing resource groups, the plan itself, and resource allocation.

Persisting the reallocation and policy tree status
IBM Spectrum Symphony persists (writes to disk), the resource reallocation status (and the policy tree status), triggered by reallocation requests sent by SSM (IBM Spectrum Symphony session manager). By default, this persisting happens during one of two scenarios: when SSM requires more resource allocation, or when SSM wants to keep the connection to VEMKD alive (even if SSM does not require more allocation). However, rather than wait for these situations, you can schedule the frequency in which IBM Spectrum Symphony persists this information. For example, you can set that status to persist every second, every minute, every 30 seconds, and so on. As a best practice, configure the system to persist status every second so that you always have the most updated status. By setting the EGO_PERSIST_REALLOCATION_STATUS_MILLISECONDS parameter, IBM Spectrum Symphony will not write the status file to disk if the elapse time for last write is less than the value specified for the EGO_PERSIST_REALLOCATION_STATUS_MILLISECONDS parameter. This configuration reduces the frequency to persistent the resource reallocation status, and therefore, reduces the input and output to underlying file system.

If you have full distribution YARN installed and configured, you can install IBM Spectrum Symphony Advanced Edition for a fully compatible YARN environment.
