Ports used by IBM Spectrum Symphony
The default base connection port for IBM Spectrum Symphony is port 7869. IBM Spectrum Symphony always uses seven consecutive ports starting from this base port at installation. Therefore, IBM Spectrum Symphony uses ports 7869 to 7875. Additional to these seven ports, IBM Spectrum Symphony also uses other ports for additional components. Refer to this topic for details on the default port numbers used for each component, and where they are configured.
Firewall support
This topic is only applicable to the grid version of IBM Spectrum Symphony.
TCP connection configuration
TCP connection attributes are configured on a cluster basis to optimize data throughput over network connections. These attributes are set in the sd.xml configuration file, inside any *TRANSPORT_OPT environment variable.
Running IBM Spectrum Symphony without external DNS
For IBM Spectrum Symphony to work, your cluster must be able to resolve IP addresses of management host names. When host name resolution through an external DNS server is not available, especially in cloud environments, you can use static host name resolution by adding all management hosts to the OS hosts file. Alternatively, configure primary and primary-candidate hosts in the OS hosts file and set up the Service Director in IBM Spectrum Symphony to act as an internal DNS server.
IPv6 support
EGO supports IPv6. Among other benefits of IPv6, longer address lengths (128 bit) result in increased address availability for networked devices, which allows you to allocate addresses in large blocks.
Infiniband support
IBM Spectrum Symphony takes advantage of Infiniband hardware by using IBM's User Space Sockets (USS) library. The USS library supports only Linux® platforms for x86_64 and PowerPC64 architectures with IBM Spectrum Symphony Advanced Edition.
