Host selection process

There are two methods for selecting hosts to be repurposed from the source cluster: dynamic and static.

Dynamic host selection

When selecting a host dynamically, you need to specify a resource requirement string. Ensure that you enter a resource requirement expression that relates to the host and that can be used during evaluation. For example, for a maximum RAM available requirement, you could specify select(maxmem>400).

IBM® Spectrum Symphony multicluster will attempt to choose a subset of hosts satisfying the resource requirement up to the required number of slots. Multicluster will first choose hosts with no slots allocated, then one slot, and so on, based on the current status at the multicluster primary cluster. Hosts are only repurposed if they are idle or if the terminate running workload flag is set.

Static host selection

There are four methods for static host selection from the source cluster:
Specifying the host name
Enter the host name in the field provided. The host will be added to the list of hosts to be repurposed.
Importing a list of host names from a file
Select a file containing host names. The file format should be one host name per line.
Automatic host selection
The system narrows down the types of hosts by only displaying idle hosts, or hosts with a specific number of capacity units.

If you clear both fields, by default, the system will find available hosts and display those for you.

Manual host selection from a list
The system displays all hosts in the source cluster. You decide which hosts to repurpose.
