Enabling selective reclaim

Enable selective reclaim to prioritize and reclaim resources based on the importance of running tasks and sessions.

About this task

By default, the system reclaims resources as quickly as possible, with minimum overhead. You can modify this behavior so that the system considers the relative importance of running work and reclaims resources from less important sessions first.

Procedure

  1. From the cluster management console, click Workload > Symphony > Application Profiles.
  2. Select an application profile to edit and expand the General Settings section.
  3. Specify Enable Selective Reclaim = true. By default, selective reclaim is set to false.

From all the suitable hosts in the consumer, consider session importance (preemption rank or session priority) and preemption criteria to determine which resource to reclaim.

If Enable Selective Reclaim = false, which is the default behavior. From all the suitable hosts in the consumer, pick a host at random and reclaim a resource from that host. Session importance (preemption rank or session priority) and preemption criteria determine which slot on the host is chosen.
