Entitling IBM Spectrum Symphony Server and VM Harvesting

IBM® Spectrum Symphony Server and VM Harvesting is an add-on feature that is included in the Standard and Advanced editions of IBM Spectrum Symphony. This feature requires an entitlement file to work.

About this task

The IBM Spectrum Symphony Server and VM Harvesting feature allows you to leverage the compute power of servers and virtual servers that would not ordinarily be added to the cluster. The feature only adds servers to the cluster to run work sent from IBM Spectrum Symphony when the non-IBM Spectrum Symphony load on the server is under a predefined threshold. When the server is used to run more non-IBM Spectrum Symphony applications, the server is closed to the cluster and work runs on other hosts. For detailed information about this feature, refer to IBM Spectrum Symphony Server and VM Harvesting add-on.

Procedure

  1. Copy the sym_server_entitlement.dat entitlement file to a location that is accessible from the primary host.
  2. Shut down the cluster from the primary host:
    1. Log on to the cluster as Admin.
      egosh user logon -u Admin -x Admin_password
    2. Disable the applications and services:
      soamcontrol app disable all
      egosh service stop all
    3. Log on as a cluster administrator operating system user and shut down the cluster:
      egosh ego shutdown all
  3. Update the entitlement configuration for the cluster:
    egoconfig setentitlement sym_server_entitlement.dat
  4. Start the cluster:
    egosh ego start all
    soamcontrol app enable application_name
