Retiring a cluster's membership from the federation cluster

A multicluster administrator, or a user with the SMC_CLUSTER_VIEW or SMC_CLUSTER_CONTROL permission can retire a member cluster from the federation cluster, and from the federation cluster waiting list. It is no longer a member cluster, and returns to being a lone cluster.

About this task

Clusters that are accepted into the federation cluster appear on the Federation Cluster Members page of the multicluster management console. You can remove a cluster from your multicluster environment with the Retire function.
Note: For IBM® Spectrum Symphony 7.3.2 or earlier, the multicluster proxy (SMCP) is not stopped when a cluster is retired from the federation cluster. After you retire a cluster, restart the SMCP service before you authorize the cluster to rejoin the federation cluster.

Procedure

  1. From the multicluster management console, click Resources > Federation Cluster > Members.
  2. Select the cluster that you want to remove from the federation cluster.
  3. Click Retire.
  4. To confirm that you want to remove the cluster from your multicluster environment, click Retire.

Results

The cluster is no longer a member of the federation cluster, returns to being a lone cluster, and does not exist on the federation waiting list. The multicluster proxy service on the retired cluster is stopped and set to manual start mode.
