Configuring your cluster for Amazon Web Services

Follow these steps to configure your cluster to provision compute hosts from the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud.

Setting up an Amazon Web Services account
Create and set up an Amazon Web Services (AWS) account to access AWS web services for IBM Spectrum Symphony.
Minimal permissions for AWS provisioning
For provisioning from the AWS cloud, the designated IAM user must be assigned permissions to access Amazon EC2 resources. You can allow complete EC2 access to provision AWS resources by assigning the AmazonEC2FullAccess policy, the AmazonEC2SpotFleetTaggingRole policy, or both. However, for restricted access, assign a minimal set of permissions to the designated IAM user. Without these minimal permissions, provisioning from AWS will fail.
Creating a custom image in AWS
Optionally, create a custom Amazon Machine Image (AMI) with the base OS and IBM Spectrum Symphony installed. EC2 instances are provisioned using this custom image, significantly reducing the time it takes to provision a compute host from the cloud.
Configuring the post-provisioning script for AWS
Customize compute hosts that are provisioned from the cloud service provider by using post-provisioning scripts. IBM Spectrum Symphony provides sample scripts that you can use with minimal configuration.
Configuring the Amazon Web Services provider instance
Configure the Amazon Web Services (AWS) provider instance to provide authentication information and to define host templates that are used to map your cluster's resource demands to AWS instances.
