Storage capacity of volumes

IBM Spectrum Control displays the storage capacity of volumes.

About this task

The disk storage that IBM Spectrum Control supports is expressed in powers of two:
1 KB = 2 to the power of 10 bytes (1024)
1 MB = 2 to the power of 20 bytes (1 048 576)
1 GB = 2 to the power of 30 bytes (1 073 741 824)
1 TB = 2 to the power of 40 bytes (1.09951E+12)
1 PB = 2 to the power of 50 bytes (1.1259E+15)
This matches the convention of many storage systems but does not match the behavior of the the IBM® XIV® Storage System or IBM Storage Accelerate. Therefore, a volume that is created by using the the XIV GUI with a size of 17 GB might be displayed by IBM Spectrum Control as 16 GB in size. The DS8000® storage system GUIs display the storage as powers of two.
