Deploying instance groups to a single host

Deploy an instance group to a single host without stopping the instance group.

Before you begin

You must be a cluster administrator, consumer administrator, or have the Instance Groups View, Instance Groups Control, and Services View permissions.

About this task

You can deploy Spark (and if applicable, dependent packages and notebooks) to a single host in an instance group without stopping the instance group. If you deploy an instance group to multiple hosts and the deployment fails, you must stop the instance group before you redeploy. When you deploy to a single host, the instance group remains in the same state as before the deployment, which helps you recover from deployment failures and unblock hosts without interrupting Spark workload.

You can only deploy Spark to a single host when IBM® Spectrum Conductor is installed to a local environment; shared file system environments are not supported.

Procedure

  1. From the cluster management console, click Workload > Instance Groups.
  2. Click the instance group.
  3. In the Hosts tab, select the host to which you want to deploy the instance group.
  4. Click Deploy to Selected Hosts.

Results

You have deployed Spark to a single host in the instance group. After deployment is complete, or if deployment fails, the instance group is in the same state that it started in before deployment. You can view the status of deployments for a host by selecting the host and clicking View Host Deployment Details.
