Installing or upgrading from an .exe file

How to install or upgrade the IBM Spectrum Archive™ Library Edition on a Windows system from an .exe file.

Before you begin

Obtain the executable file for the Windows installer. For the V2.1.7.1 release, the following executable file names have the value 00 for xx and 7200 for [revision].
  • IBM_LTFS_LE_2.7.0xx.[revision]_x64.exe (for installation)
  • IBM_LTFS_LE_2.7.0xx.[revision]_x64_update.exe (for upgrade)

The executable file is available on the Spectrum Archive Library Edition software CD media or through Electronic Software Delivery (ESD). For an upgrade, the executable file might also be available from the IBM® Fix Central website.

Note: If a Windows installer warning message is displayed, uninstall the former version of the program before you upgrade Spectrum Archive Library Edition. For more information, see Uninstalling from a Windows system.

Procedure

Complete the following steps to install or upgrade Spectrum Archive Library Edition from an .exe file:

  1. Open Windows Explorer and double-click the .exe file that you obtained for the Windows installer. A dialog box displays with a menu from which you can select a language for the installation.
  2. Click OK to display a "Software License Agreement" window.
  3. Select one of the following options to display the "Destination Folder" window:
    • I accept the terms in the license agreement > Next
    • Read Non-IBM Terms (to open a non-IBM license agreement) > Close
    Note: You can change the folder in which to install the program by using the "Destination Folder" wizard. The default destination folder is set to C:\Program Files\IBM\LTFS\. If you want to change the default folder, click Change. Otherwise, click Next to skip to step 6.
  4. If you click Change, the "Change Current Destination Folder" window displays the following options:
    • Choosing a folder from the "Look in" menu
    • Setting the folder name from the "Folder name" text box
  5. After you select an option, click OK to proceed to the next step.
  6. Click Next in the "Destination Folder" window to display the "Ready to Install the Program" window.
    Note: If you want to change an installation parameter, click Back, and then follow the same step, or steps, that got you to step 6.
  7. Click Install to display the "Installing IBM Spectrum Archive Library Edition" window.
    Note: You can track the progress of the installation by viewing the status bar.
  8. Click Yes when the "User Account Control" window displays the message: "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?" When the installation completes, the "InstallShield Wizard Completed" window displays.
    Note: If you log on to the system as a user account, the "User Account Control" window displays. To proceed to the next step, type in an administrator password and then click Yes.
  9. For IBM tape library users, follow these instructions:
    • Click Finish and then Yes when the "Installing IBM Spectrum Archive Library Edition Installer" information window is displayed. The system is restarted, and Spectrum Archive Library Edition starts.
  10. For non-IBM tape library users, follow these instructions:
    1. Click Finish and then No when the "Installing IBM Spectrum Archive Library Edition" information window is displayed.
    2. Customize the software configuration to use Spectrum Archive Library Edition with a non-IBM tape library by running the following commands:
      1. Double-click c:\Program Files\IBM\LTFS\ltfs\SwitchToDell.reg
      2. Rename "c:\Program Files\IBM\LTFS\ltfs\ltfs.conf.local" to "c:\Program Files\IBM\LTFS\ltfs\ltfs.conf.local.IBM"
      3. Rename "c:\Program Files\IBM\LTFS\ltfs\ltfs.conf.local.dell" to "c:\Program Files\IBM\LTFS\ltfs\ltfs.conf.local"
    3. Restart the system.
