Datastore service
Use the datastore service to deploy and manage PostgreSQL databases in your dedicated cluster on the IBM® Sovereign Core platform. You control configuration, performance, and lifecycle management of your database instances.
Tech preview The datastore service is in technical preview.
Capabilities
The datastore service provides the following capabilities:
- Tenant-managed databases: Tenant users can deploy and manage PostgreSQL environments in their clusters and create and manage cluster custom resources (CRs) to control configuration, performance, and lifecycle management.
- Automated lifecycle management: The Postgres Operator automates deployment, scaling, backup and failover, and other database operations through Kubernetes and YAML configuration.
- Continuous data protection: The Postgres Operator provides continuous backups and recovery to protect your database workloads.
- Catalog-governed distribution: The Postgres Operator is delivered through the IBM Sovereign Core catalog to ensure consistent and policy-governed distribution across environments.
- Isolated tenant boundaries: All PostgreSQL instances run in the tenant cluster, providing isolated network and storage boundaries.
Supported operations
The datastore service supports the following operations:
- System owners can configure the Postgres Operator in the catalog and manage versions, patches, and compatibility.
- Tenant users can distribute the Postgres Operator, create cluster CRs, monitor status, retrieve credentials, manage instances, back up, and configure access.
- Application owners can integrate PostgreSQL into applications and run secure and reliable workloads.
