Administering Data Virtualization
You can perform administrative tasks for Data Virtualization, such as exporting audit records and scaling the service. Ensure that you have the required permissions to complete tasks.
For administrative tasks that are related to configuring the features of the Data Virtualization service and that do not require cluster or instance administrator permissions, see Administering the Data Virtualization service.
Security
| Task | Required permissions | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Exporting IBM® Software Hub audit records to a security information and event management solution | Instance administrator | Record user activities for Data Virtualization. |
| Enabling Kerberos authentication in Data Virtualization | Instance administrator | If you want to connect to a data source with Kerberos authentication, you must provide the Kerberos configuration file to Data Virtualization before you create the connection. |
Resource management
| Task | Required permissions | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Scaling Data Virtualization | Instance administrator | You can scale a Data Virtualization instance to increase processing capacity by using standard t-shirt sizes or custom sizes |
| Shutting down and restarting services | Instance administrator | Manually shut down Data Virtualization to prevent it from using resources. You can restart the service when you need to use it again. |
Backup and restore
| Task | Required permissions | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Backing up and restoring IBM Software Hub | Cluster administrator | Choose the correct method to back up and restore IBM Software Hub. |
Service configuration
| Task | Required permissions | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Connecting and authenticating to the Data Virtualization service | Instance administrator | Data Virtualization uses your IBM Software Hub credentials to connect to the service. |
| Scaling Data Virtualization | Instance administrator | You can scale a Data Virtualization instance to increase processing capacity by using standard t-shirt sizes or custom sizes |
| Copying secrets and configmaps to tethered projects in Data Virtualization | Instance administrator | Data
Virtualization uses zenExtension to copy secrets and
configmaps to tethered projects. After you create or modify the ca-connection-certs
secret or the krb5-conf-files configmap, use this feature to copy them to tethered
projects. |
| Revoking data access authority from the Admin role in Data Virtualization | Instance administrator | You can remove the Db2 DATAACCESS authorization from the Admin role to limit the access that upgraded Admin users have to database tables. |
| Enabling and disabling pass-through authentication in Data Virtualization | Instance administrator | Pass-through authentication is enabled by default in Data Virtualization, allowing your users to use their own personal platform connection credentials when they import and use connections to data sources. You can disable and re-enable pass-through authentication according to your preferences. |
| Setting the storage class for caching in Data Virtualization | Instance administrator | Pass-through authentication is enabled by default in Data Virtualization, allowing your users to use their own personal platform connection credentials when they import and use connections to data sources. You can disable and re-enable pass-through authentication according to your preferences. |
Data migration
| Task | Required permissions | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Migrating Data Virtualization data | Cluster administrator | You can use cpd-cli commands or Git-based Data
Virtualization APIs to
export and import your Data
Virtualization assets.
Governance artifacts are migrated separately
by using the IBM Knowledge
Catalog export-import module. |
