Getting started with Data Replication

With Data Replication, you can integrate and synchronize data across multiple data stores by delivering and reacting to database changes in real-time. By using you the Data Replication service, you get access to continuously available and up-to-date data.

To set up Data Replication in IBM Software Hub, you create a shared project and then define your connections to source and target data stores. Build replication mappings by selecting the schemas and tables that you want to replicate.

When the mappings are done, you can start the replicating data. The data is first synchronized between the source and target data stores and then continuously updated automatically whenever changes are detected to the source tables. The changes are delivered in near-real-time to the target data store. Data Replication will run continuously unless you pause or stop it.

Checking whether the service is installed

An administrator must install Data Replication.

To check whether the service is installed:

  1. From the navigation menu, select Services > Services catalog.
  2. Search for Data Replication.

If the service is installed and ready to use, the tile in the catalog shows Ready to use.

If the service is installed but no service instances have been created, the tile in the catalog shows Ready to provision.

Important: Even if the service is Ready to use, you must be added to a service instance to use the service.

Accessing the service

Cloud Pak for Data This service is available from the IBM Cloud Pak for Data experience.

From the navigation menu, select Projects > All projects. Open your project or create a new one. On the Assets tab, click New asset and select Replicate data to configure and run a Data Replication job.
