Getting started with watsonx.data integration

With Watsonx.data integration, you can transform, integrate, and observe your data across various data sources, including databases, file systems, real-time web services, and other enterprise applications.

Data engineers use an intuitive graphical design interface to build data flows that can transform and integrate the following types of data:

  • Structured data, such as data stored in relational databases or CSV files
  • Semi-structured data, such as JSON or XML files
  • Unstructured data, such as PDF, HTML, or markdown files

They can create alerts to track the health of the end-to-end data integration process. As a result, they can investigate data incidents to solve any problems or issues that occur in data quality.

Use watsonx.data integration to:

  • Transform batch data to create batch data flows that extract data from multiple source systems, transform the data as required, and deliver the data to target systems.
  • Distribute a data integration workload across multiple sites and provide continuous availability of data with the Data Replication tool.
  • Stream real-time data to read, process, and write data as soon as it becomes available.
  • Prepare unstructured data to ingest, transform, and enrich unstructured data from diverse sources.
  • Create alerts to observe the data throughout the end-to-end integration process.

Checking whether the service is installed

An administrator must install watsonx.data integration.

To check whether the service is installed:

  1. From the navigation menu, select Services > Services catalog.
  2. Search for watsonx.data integration.

If the service is installed and ready to use, the tile in the catalog shows Ready to use.

Accessing the service

Data FabricThis service is available from the Data Fabric experience.

To access your projects, open the navigation menu and select Projects > View all projects. Select a project or create a new one.

To transform your data, on the Assets tab, select New asset > Transform and integrate data.

To replicate the data, on the Assets tab, select New asset > Replicate data to configure and run a new job.

To stream real-time data, on the Assets tab, select New asset > Create a real-time streaming data flow.

To transform unstructured data, on the Assets tab, select New asset > Create an unstructured data flow.

To access alerts, open the navigation menu and select Data > Data observability. You can display the alert details or create a new alert and alert receiver.
