Creating a service instance for Planning Analytics from the web client

After you install Planning Analytics, you must create at least one Planning Analytics service instance. Each service instance must be in a different Red Hat® OpenShift® Container Platform project. You can create a service instance in the operands project or in a project that is tethered to the operands project. If you are a IBM® Software Hub user, you can use the web client to create service instances. The web client guides you through the process of creating service instances.

Who needs to complete this task?
To create a service instance from the web client, you must have the Create service instances permission in IBM Software Hub.
When do you need to complete this task?
Complete this task only if you want to create a service instance from the web client.

Before you begin

This task assumes that the following prerequisites are met:

Prerequisite Where to find more information
Planning Analytics is installed. If this task is not complete, see Installing Planning Analytics.

You must have sufficient resources to provision and run the Planning Analytics service, as described by the following table.

Plan size Minimum required resources Maximum required resources Largest pod
Micro Across the cluster, you must have at least:
  • Cores: 9
  • Memory: 28.6 Gi (Approximately 29 GB)
  • Storage: 20 Gi (Approximately 22 GB)
At most, the instance uses:
  • Cores: 34
  • Memory: 60.98 Gi (Approximately 61 GB)
  • Storage: Storage: 20 Gi (Approximately 22 GB)
The largest pod requires up to:
  • Cores: 2
  • Memory: 2 Gi (Approximately 2 GB)

About this task

Create an instance of the Planning Analytics service so that users can interact with the Planning Analytics interface.

Procedure

To create a service instance:

  1. Log in to the web client.
  2. Switch to the IBM Cloud Pak for Data experience, if needed.
  3. From the navigation menu, select Services > Instances.
  4. Click New instance.
  5. Click the Planning Analytics tile. Then, click Next.
  6. On the Instance details page, enter an Instance name for this instance of Planning Analytics and select a namespace from the Namespace dropdown list.

Optionally, enter a description for the instance.

Warning: Do not select a namespace in which you already created an instance.
  7. Click Next.
  8. On the Hardware configuration page, select your plan size.

Select a Micro, Small, Medium, or Large plan size.

  9. On the Storage Options page, specify your storage options.
    1. In the TM1 Storage section, select your TM1 storage class.
    2. In the Workspace Storage section, select the storage class to use for the Planning Analytics Workspace instance and specify the disk size storage capacities.
Note: The only storage classes that are supported in Planning Analytics are Network File System (NFS), Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage (ocs-storagecluster-cephfs), and Portworx (portworx-shared-gp3). You must use one of these classes.
  10. Review your selections on the Summary page, then click Create.

Results

It can take up to 60 minutes for the provisioning process to complete. You can continue to use other services in IBM Software Hub while the process completes.

When provisioning is complete, the Planning Analytics service is available for you and your users to model, report, and plan with your business data. For more information about using the service, see Modeling and reporting patterns in data with Planning Analytics.

What to do next

You must give users access to the service instance. For more information, see Adding users to Planning Analytics on IBM Software Hub.
