Creating a service instance for Analytics Engine powered by Apache Spark from the web client

After you install Analytics Engine powered by Apache Spark, you must create at least one Analytics Engine powered by Apache Spark service instance in the operands project. If you are a IBM® Software Hub user, you can use the web client to create service instances. The web client guides you through the process of creating service instances.

Who needs to complete this task?
To create a service instance from the web client, you must have the Create service instances permission in IBM Software Hub.
When do you need to complete this task?
Complete this task only if you want to create a service instance from the web client.
Alternative methods for creating a service instance

Before you begin

This task assumes that the following prerequisites are met:

Procedure

To create a service instance:

  1. Log in to the web client.
  2. Switch to the IBM Cloud Pak for Data experience, if needed.
  3. From the navigation menu, select Services > Instances.
  4. Click New instance.
  5. Click the Analytics Engine powered by Apache Spark tile. Then, click Next.
  6. Enter the service instance name. The instance name can contain any alphanumeric character and the special character -.
  7. Optionally add a description and click Next.
  8. Select the instance storage volume type. You can:
    1. Create a new storage volume. Enter the volume name and specify the size in GB. The volume name can contain any alphanumeric character and the special character -. You can select storage volume classes for the storage types that are supported by the version of Cloud Pak for Data that you are running. Ensure that dynamic volume provisioning is enabled. If this hasn't been configured, the volume will not be created dynamically when the claim request is made and your service instance will not be created.
    2. Use an existing storage volume. Select this option if you want to reuse an existing volume or use the volume that was created for existing instances.
  9. Ensure that the summary is correct and click Create.
